Attestation vs Apostille

General MOFA Attestation / Apostille Workflow
1. Confirm the Receiving Authority’s Requirements
Check whether the foreign embassy, immigration authority, university, court or civil registry requires attestation, apostille, translation or additional verification.
2. Verify the Underlying Certificate
Names, CNIC numbers, dates and issuing authority should be checked before authentication. A certificate containing material errors should normally be corrected first.
3. Complete the Current Online Registration
Use the current Ministry of Foreign Affairs apostille/attestation portal procedure and upload or provide the required information.
4. Present the Document for Processing
Follow the appointment, courier, liaison-office or other submission route currently prescribed by MOFA.
5. Complete Destination-Specific Formalities
Depending on the destination, embassy/consular legalisation or certified translation may still be required.
Marriage Certificate Attestation
A Marriage Registration Certificate may require authentication for spouse visas, family sponsorship, nationality, foreign marriage registration and immigration matters. The registered MRC should be checked against the underlying marriage particulars before submission.
Divorce Certificate Attestation
Foreign authorities may require the final registered Divorce Registration Certificate rather than only a Talaq Nama or Family Court Khula decree.
Birth Certificate Attestation
Birth certificates are commonly authenticated for citizenship, immigration, passport, education and family relationship purposes. Any discrepancy in parentage or date of birth should be resolved first.
Death Certificate Attestation
