NADRA Certificates and Civil Registration Certificates in Pakistan

The expression NADRA certificates is commonly used in Pakistan for several computerised certificates connected with identity and civil registration. It is important, however, to distinguish between certificates directly issued by NADRA and vital-event certificates generally issued through the competent civil-registration authority.

Birth, death, marriage and divorce records are generally registered through the relevant Union Council, municipal authority, cantonment board or other competent local authority within Pakistan’s civil-registration framework. By contrast, documents such as the Family Registration Certificate (FRC) and NADRA identity-document Cancellation Certificate are direct NADRA services.

NADRA Marriage Certificate

A computerised Marriage Registration Certificate is frequently required for spouse visas, family sponsorship, immigration, nationality, inheritance and embassy matters. The first question is whether the original Nikah Nama was properly completed and registered. Read our complete NADRA Marriage Certificate guide.

NADRA Divorce Certificate

A Talaq Nama or Family Court Khula decree is not always the same as the final registered Divorce Registration Certificate. Applicants intending to remarry or submit documents abroad should check whether the civil-registration stage has been completed. See the NADRA Divorce Certificate guide.

NADRA Birth Certificate

A computerised birth record may be needed for CRC/B-Form, passport, CNIC/NICOP, school, immigration and nationality matters. Delayed birth registration can require additional evidence depending on the applicant’s age and jurisdiction. Read about Birth Certificate registration and correction.

NADRA Death Certificate

The Death Registration Certificate is a foundational document for succession, insurance, pensions, bank matters and CNIC cancellation. It should not be confused with the separate NADRA Cancellation Certificate. See the Death Certificate guide.

Family Registration Certificate (FRC)

FRC is directly issued by NADRA and reflects family composition recorded in NADRA’s database. It is widely used for immigration, spouse/dependant visas and embassy matters. If a spouse or child is missing, the underlying family linkage may need correction. Read the complete FRC guide.

NADRA Cancellation Certificate

A Cancellation Certificate confirms cancellation of a NADRA identity record in eligible circumstances such as death, nationality surrender or duplicate-record regularisation. It is particularly important in succession matters. Read about NADRA Cancellation Certificates.

NADRA Succession Certificate & Letter of Administration

Qualifying succession cases may be processed through NADRA under the applicable statutory framework. Succession Certificates generally concern movable assets, while Letters of Administration generally concern immovable property. See our Succession Certificate Pakistan guide.

NADRA Certificate Verification

There is no single public nationwide search box that verifies every Pakistani civil certificate. Verification depends on the document, issuing authority and purpose. Read our certificate verification guide.

NADRA Certificates for Overseas Pakistanis

Pakistanis living in the UK, UAE, USA, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Europe and elsewhere may need certificates for immigration, family sponsorship, nationality, inheritance or foreign civil-registration matters. Some services can be accessed through digital channels, while others require representation, verification or Power of Attorney. See assistance for overseas Pakistanis.

Certificate Attestation and Apostille

Documents intended for use abroad may require verification, MOFA attestation, apostille, embassy processing or certified translation. The destination country’s requirements should be checked before submission. Read our Certificate Attestation Pakistan guide.

How Our Certificate Assistance Works

1. Tell Us Which Certificate You Need

Provide the certificate type, relevant city/district and whether the document already exists.

2. Initial Document Review

We review the available CNIC/NICOP, Nikah Nama, court decree, birth/death record, FRC or other supporting documentation.

3. Identify the Correct Authority

We determine whether the matter belongs to NADRA, a Union Council, municipal authority, cantonment authority, court or another competent office.

4. Registration, Correction or Verification

The required administrative or legal step is identified so the applicant does not waste time applying to the wrong authority.

5. Foreign-Use Guidance

Where the certificate will be used overseas, we identify whether additional verification, MOFA processing, apostille or translation may be required.

Why Accuracy Matters

Certificate work involves identity, family status, immigration and inheritance. Small discrepancies in names, CNIC numbers, dates, parentage or marital status can cause serious downstream problems. Our content deliberately distinguishes between NADRA-issued certificates and local civil-registration certificates rather than describing every document as if it were issued directly by NADRA.

Frequently Asked Questions About NADRA Certificates

What is a NADRA certificate?

It is a common search term covering several computerised Pakistani certificates. Some, such as FRC and Cancellation Certificates, are issued directly through NADRA. Birth, death, marriage and divorce certificates generally arise through the competent civil-registration authority.

Does NADRA directly issue Marriage Certificates?

The computerised Marriage Registration Certificate is generally produced after the marriage is registered with the competent local civil authority.

Is Nikah Nama the same as a Marriage Registration Certificate?

No. The Nikah Nama is the primary marriage record; the MRC is the computerised civil-registration certificate.

Is a Khula decree the same as a Divorce Certificate?

No. A Khula decree is a judicial order. Further civil-registration steps may be necessary.

Who issues FRC?

NADRA directly issues the Family Registration Certificate based on family-composition data in its records.

Can overseas Pakistanis obtain certificates remotely?

Many matters can be initiated or assisted remotely, although some cases require local verification, biometrics or formal authorisation.

Can Pakistani certificates be verified online?

There is no single public online facility covering every civil certificate in Pakistan.

Do certificates need MOFA attestation?

For foreign use, many documents may require MOFA authentication or apostille depending on the receiving authority.
